Is your skin normal? Oily? Dry?
It is easy for people to get it wrong as this tricky question will change its’ answer overtime as your skin type can change over time.
Your skin type will be affected by different factors such as climate, hormones and diet.
So today, we are here to give you some tips on how to determine your skin type!

Normal Skin Type
Here we refer “normal” as a well-balanced skin. So how does a normal skin type looks like:
- T-Zone (zone 1, 2, 3 and 7) might be slightly oily
- Overall sebum and moisture is balanced
- Skin is neither too dry nor oily
To further identify, you can try to observe the following:
- Fine pores which is barely visible.
- Good blood circulation with skin being soft and smooth.
- Less sensitive and can tolerate most things without overreacting.
Dry Skin Type
“Dry” Skin sometimes may be misleading as one may think that it is due to lack of moisture, but in fact the water level of a dry skin might be the same as the oily skin. By simply just adding water might not help but counter productive on treating the skin condition. Here are a few signs to identify:
- A tightness feeling on your skin
- Scaly or flaky patches
- Almost invisible pores
- Visible fine lines (easily appearing on zone 6 and 8 around the eyes)
- Tend to feel itchy
Dry skin in most of the situation is due to the lack of sebum being produced in our skin’s oil glands which is responsible for keeping the skin soft and supple.
Oily Skin Type
Do you often have the greasy feeling on your face? Oily skin people can hardly get the idea of what does tight or dry skin feels like!
So here are some signs that may appear:
- Shiny skin
- Enlarged pores which is clearly visible
- Often has to deal with acne and pimple problems
As we mentioned before skin’s oil glands keeps our skin soft and supple but when it overproduce, it leaves our skin shiny and the pores to be clogged. Furthermore, the over produce of sebum expands the pore size resulting in pimples or acne. Are you one of the person having oily skin? Keep an eye on your stress level which might cause it worse!
Combination Skin Type
After reading the above types of skin, you might have the questions saying what if I do feel greasy around my T zone but feeling scaly and flaky on my cheek?
So here are some signs:
- Oily T zone (zone 1, 2, 3 and 7)
- Enlarged pores at some zones with possibilities of having blackhead or clogging
- Might also have Dry cheek (zone 5&9)
Combination skin often has two or more texture where the oily part has an active sebum production whereas the dry zone are caused by the lack of sebum.
Sensitive Skin Type
Sensitive skin type can also have the characteristics of other types of skin. The below few signs may also be present:
- Great amount of redness and irritation
- Burning and itching
- Extreme dryness
Sometimes it might be the caused of allergies or rosacea, hence, it’s recommended to avoid from using strong chemical-based skincare products or treatments. This skin type often has different causes, hence, it will be better to visit the professionals to search for a solution.
